Grantham MP Nick Boles says it is ‘depressing’ how little progress is being made to fully reopen the town’s A&E unit.

Mr Boles’ comments come in response to the decision yesterday by the board of United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust to approve a proposal to extend the A&E unit’s opening times by one hour.

Mr Boles said: “Six months’ after United Lincolnshire Hospitals Trust decided to close Grantham A&E at night because of shortages of staff across the county, it is depressing how little progress has been made.

An hour extra in the morning is better than nothing but does not suggest they are taking the situation as seriously as they should.

“My colleague Caroline Johnson and I will be seeking an urgent meeting with the PM to explain the situation and ask for her support in making sure ULHT do reopen a full 24/7 service as soon as possible.”

Grantham A&E is currently closed from 6.30pm to 9am every day. The proposal is to open the unit at 8am. The decision will be reviewed early next month and is due to go ahead from March 27 if confirmed.
