By Grantham Reporter

Pupils at Belmont Primary School have struck up a friendship with an award winning children’s author.

Reading enthusiasts across the entire school contacted popular author Gill Lewis after reading a few of her books including ‘A story like the wind,’ as part of a reading challenge.

Year 6 teacher and English lead Mr Grossmith said: “Pupils are being encouraged to read high quality’ texts by a variety of different authors to motivate them into reading for pleasure.

“They have been contacting quite a few authors to engage with them and ask questions.”

They were delighted to receive letters, cards and tweets back from Gill Lewis, whose best sellers include Moon Bear, White Dolphin and Sky Hawk.

Mr Grossmith added: “Everyone was very excited to hear back from Gill. We have been exploring refugees through some amazing picture books including Gill’s book “A story like the wind”

“We have now started Moon bear and are already loving the story.”
