Grantham RSPCA officer in training to sled with huskies in the Arctic
An RSPCA officer will travel through the Arctic on a husky-drawn sled to raise money for a veterinary centre.
Sharon Knight, 49, of Harrowby Road, will brave temperatures which dip as low as -30C on a 257km trek at the end of this month.
Sharon, a collection officer for the RSPCA, will be part of a team which is raising money towards Woodside Animal Centre’s £1 million Care4Paws appeal.
Sharon said: “This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to do something so extreme for such a good cause. I have been training at my local gym. It has been very tough but I am almost ready.”
Sharon is training at the Urban Hotel which has sponsored her with a year’s free use of its gym in preparation for the trip.
She added: “Of course, I am a little bit nervous but I am thankful for the Urban Hotel group for allowing me to use their facilities to prepare for the challenge ahead. I’m going with some great people and will be working with wonderful animals so I couldn’t be in better company.”
Sharon leaves for the Arctic on March 29 and the trek will take seven days.
You can sponsor Sharon and the team at www.justgiving.com/arcticchal or text Arctic to 70500 to make a £5 donation. The team hopes to raise £50,000.
