A new bike and scooter shelter has been opened at St Mary’s Primary School in Grantham.

Children were invited into school for a free breakfast before the opening of the shelter which was soon full with pupils’ bicycles and scooters.

Jon Moody, known as ‘Dr Bike’, of Sustrans, said the shelter was paid for by Lincolnshire County Council with the support of Sustrans and other organisations.

He said with encouragement many more children were now cycling and scooting to school and many more schools around the county were showing the same enthusiasm for cycling.

Mr Moody goes into schools to help with bike repairs, cycle training and competitions.

St Mary’s deputy headteacher David Nicholson said: “It’s a fantastic facility for us and has encouraged more children to come on their bikes and scooters. It will help us to promote health and wellbeing at the school.”
