Primary school children held an awards ceremony for those people in the community who inspire them.

The Year One children at Little Gonerby Infant School have done a project called ‘Who Inspires Us?’ They were asked who inspired them and why. The children named firemen, policemen, doctors and famous people as well as their parents and siblings, and explained why they were such an inspiration.

At a special awards ceremony at the school the children then stood on stage and gave a speech and awarded medals to those people who inspire them.

Year 1 teacher Sarah Marsden said: “The hall was full and the feedback we had from people was fantastic.

“People said it was lovely to see the confidence of the children and a lot of the adults had a tear in their eye when they heard what the children were saying.”

Year 1 teachers Jennifer Bayley and Heidi Maclachlan were also involved in the project. This will be followed up by another project in which they children will explore how they can inspire others.
