Priory Ruskin Academy in Rushcliffe Road, Grantham, has been forced to send children home today after a water main burst.

Headteacher Clive Shepherd said: “A mains water pipe has burst so we have no toitel facilities, no hot water, no boiler and catering facilities.

“We have had to make the difficult decision, as an absolute last resort, to close the school.”

It is not yet known whether the school will be open tomorrow.

Mr Shepherd said: “At this point in time it is uncertain if we are going to be open tomorrow.

“We have had the water company on site since 6.30 this morning trying to locate the problem. They have found the problem now but it could be that it needs gluing and that could take 24 hours to settle.

“We will let parents know as soon as possible.”

Mr Shepherd said the problem is not linked to major construction work going on at the site.

He said: “It is outside the sports centre which is not even in the line of traffic for the construction.

“It is just a freak occurrence. One of the seals has gone.”
