Grantham shoppers wait in the rain for opening of Poundworld store

Scores of customers queued in the rain eagerly awaiting the opening of Poundworld in Grantham.

It is thought as many as 100 people braved the downpour as they waited for the store to open in the Augustin Way Retail Park, in Sankt Augustin Way.

The 4,000 sq ft store, which is in the former home of shoe retailer Brantano, will create 30 jobs.

Marta Gontarz, Poundworld area manager, said: “We’re thrilled to be opening our first store in Grantham. It will breath new life in to an empty retail space.

“Thanks to local shoppers for a great welcome.”

As part of the celebrations there was face painting, free product samples and an from Poundworld mascot, Percy the Pound.
