Grantham singer duets with son of 'Godfather of British Rock n Roll'

A Grantham singer found herself singing a duet on stage with Peter Donegan, son of the the ‘Godfather of British Rock n Roll’, the late Lonnie Donegan.

Laura Church was singing as part of a charity night at Beeston Royal Legion last Wednesday.

She had been chatting to Peter Donegan, whose father hadinspired every British Invasion band from The Beatles to Led Zeppelin and asked him to sing ‘I’ll never fall in love again’, the song his dad wrote for Sir Tom Jones.

Laura, who lives in Grantham, said: “He asked if I liked it and I told him that I covered it and it was one of my favourites so he said why don’t we sing it together then? I felt slightly under pressure when he told me that he’d only ever sang it with Tom Jones on The Voice before. I thoroughly enjoyed it though.”

The duo were singing among other acts including Trevor Leeson, James Barnes and Steve Gentry raising funds for Breast Cancer UK.
