Grantham street cleared of ‘dangerous’ parking as council order bans most vehicles

Parking along the road off St Catherine's Road, Grantham, has now been banned.
Parking along the road off St Catherine's Road, Grantham, has now been banned.

Parking has been banned on a street in the centre of Grantham.

New parking arrangements have swung into operation on the road between Welham Street car park and the Reel Cinema in Grantham.

Double yellow lines have been removed and markings are in place for two new disabled parking bays. That will be the only parking allowed under South Kesteven District Council’s new Off-Street Parking Places Order.

The order came into effect on May 15 after a public consultation exercise on the proposals but SKDC is operating a warning period until May 30 when enforcement action will start. Any driver issued a parking ticket will face a £70 fine.

Motorists parking illegally on the road up to May 30 are being issued with a warning leaflet and new signage will be put on car park walls. Local traders will also be informed.

SKDC says it’s a key part of a crackdown to stop dangerous parking on the council-owned private road.

Vehicles were previously parking on both sides, including on double yellow lines and the pavement, in a way that was considered hazardous to pedestrians and other road users.

The order also ensures that emergency vehicles have sufficient access.
