Grantham sunrisers help rid town of litter
Rotarians turned out in force on Sunday to support the ‘Great British Spring Clean’, a national campaign that aims to encourage people to look after the environment on their doorstep.
The campaign, which is run by environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy, runs from March 22 to April 23 and will see up to half a million people taking action to clean up streets, parks and beaches across the country.
Members from Grantham Sunrise Rotary Club donned their bright pink day-glo jackets, supplied by South Kesteven District Council (SKDC) and armed themselves with extension pickers and litter bags to tackle the area surrounding Gonerby Moor roundabout and proceeding up the hill along Gonerby Road.
Andre Finney, who organised the event said: “ I am extremely pleased that the members of Grantham Sunrise Rotary Club have got behind this national event and turned out in numbers, early on a Sunday morning, to dedicate their time and efforts to making Grantham a cleaner and tidier place. We work closely with the local community and one of our own initiatives is ‘making Grantham a brighter place’, and I feel that we are certainly making a difference.”
The top three items reported in 2018 as part of the campaign included soft drink cans, bottles, alcohol cans and fast food packaging. Visit www.keepbritaintidy.org
