Grantham teenager has never missed a single day of primary or secondary school
A teenager has completed her entire primary and secondary education without missing a single day.
Poppy Willesden, of Hodder Road, Grantham, left Walton Academy after sitting her GCSE’s this year after five years without taking a single day off.
The 16-year-old also never missed a day when she was a pupil at Huntingtower Primary Academy in Grantham.
The conscientious teenager, who is now studying Animal Care at Grantham College, doesn’t put her unblemished record down to anything in particular - she “just gets on with it.”
Poppy received her award during a special presentation night at Walton Academy earlier this month.
Mum Alison said: “I am incredibly proud. It is such an achievement. There were days when she didn’t feel one hundred per cent well and had coughs and colds but she just got up and got on with it. Her motivation has driven her forward. She sometimes gets embarrassed but not many people can say they have achieved what she has done.”
Poppy added: “I’m so proud of getting the award. I feel like I have done my family proud.”
Vice principle Jessica Leonard described Poppy as ‘remarkable.’
She added: “Poppy attended Walton from 2014 to 2019. Throughout her time with us she did not have one day off which is truly remarkable. Poppy was presented with an award for this at our achievement evening last week as this was such a great achievement.
“Despite at times not feeling 100 per cent, Poppy always got herself to school as keeping her record was very important to her. Poppy also had 100 per cent attendance at primary school so her level of commitment and determination has always been fantastic. She was a delight to have at Walton. She really embodied our core values and was a great role model for others to follow.”
