Grantham youngsters rock out at band workshop

Budding young rock stars took part in a live gig last week as part of a ‘build a band’ workshop.

It is the fourth time that musicians Pete Coppin and Dave Stephens, of Melody Music Rooms, have held the four-day workshop at their studio in Westgate, Grantham.

The talented youngsters are put into bands according to their age and skills and given the chance to rehearse and record music in a professional studio.

Pete opened the popular music school with Dave in January last year.

They started hosting the workshops to give local youngsters a taste of what being in the music business is really like.

Pete said: “There was never anything like this when we were younger.

“ The workshops are aimed at youngsters who normally just play their music on their own in their bedroom but we have people of all ages and skills taking part.

“It gets kids away from their Xboxes and working together. Participants are able to form friendships while making music.”

At the end of the four-day workshop, the young rock stars took part in a live gig in front of friends, family and music fans at the Alive Church, complete with press taking photos, sound techs and a back stage crew.

The workshops have already seen some success stories.

‘Naturally Sourced’, one of the bands formed during the first band workshop last year, have gone on to make a name for themselves and perform many gigs.

Pete added: “We really want to develop a thriving music scene in Grantham as it once was. There are so many talented musicians in Grantham.”
