A volunteer radio presenter has picked up a national award in recognition of his work in the community.
Ben Morrison, a volunteer with community radio station Gravity FM, has been named regional winner for the East Midlands in the ‘Bringing Communities Together’ category of the vInspired National Awards.
He said: “It’s such an honour for me to be presented with this award. I don’t volunteer for recognition, helping people is enough motivation. But it’s great to know that people appreciate what I do. Volunteering has given me loads more confidence and really helped me to improve my outlook on life and it’s brilliant that these awards not only celebrate the benefits of volunteering but also inspire young people to volunteer and make a difference in their communities.”
Ben started volunteering three years ago, after a friend asked him to help with a charity event. The event raised £7,000, motivating him to do more. He jumped at the opportunity to join Gravity FM and now presents two shows a week. Ben credits his volunteering with helping him to develop into a more proactive and mature person. His ambition is to continue helping others by becoming an Army doctor.
The vInspired National Awards celebrate the achievements and dedication of young volunteers and the youth workers who support them.
Ben is now shortlisted as a national finalists and will find out in February whether he is an award winner at a ceremony at the Indig02 in London on March 27.
