The first environmental fair of its kind will take place in Grantham later this year.
The Green Fayre is scheduled to take place in Wyndham Park on August 9.
Individuals, organisations, charities and businesses are being invited to take part. The event will host local crafts people, local food producers and manufacturers as well as any organisation, group or business with an interest in environmental matters including wildlife protection, reducing the use of resources, recycling or re-using materials.
Interest from groups involved with wildlife projects and conservation projects are also welcome and any businesses who may be involved in manufacturing, installing or delivering green technologies are particularly welcome.
Coun Charmaine Morgan, as a member of Conserving Grantham, is joining forces with Elizabeth Bowskill, of Wyndham Park Forum, to set up Grantham’s first Green Fayre. The event will take place between 10.30am and 5pm at Wyndham Park.
If successful the fayre should be a regular feature on Grantham’s calendar.
It is planned to hold a Village Fair style competition that celebrates nature so there will be a flower arranging competition and pet competition. Allotment users will be welcome to show off their produce. A Victorian-style fair will be included for children and there may be donkey rides. It is planned that there will be a programme of talks as visitors tour each stall and local musicians, choirs and singers are invited to contact Elizabeth for an opportunity to perform on the day.
Mrs Morgan said: “It is our intention to be as inclusive as possible so entry will be free. There will be a minimal charge for stalls to recoup costs. We live in a wonderful yet fragile world and this will be an opportunity to raise awareness of important environmental issues whilst having fun, and enabling people to appreciate how we can all help save our precious resources.
“We are keen to support local businesses, especially anyone producing or manufacturing goods locally. We are delighted to already have interest from some groups including Sustrans and the National Trust as well as some local businesses. Lincolnshire Bat Group has offered to do a batwalk in the early evening and we hope to also arrange guided walks around our wonderful Wyndham Park.
“South Kesteven District Council officers and members of Grantham Events have been extremely helpful and we look forward to working further with them.We are also delighted that Grantham College Digital Design & Graphics course manager Dave Thomas will be working with us to design the logo for the event. ”
