Grantham Rivercare volunteers gather to clean up the River Witham.

Fourteen hardy volunteers turned out on Saturday to clean up the river from Bridge End Road to Wyndham Park.

Grantham Rivercare Leader John KNowles said: “It was a cold, frosty morning and the river level was high but nothing deters the award-winning Rivercare team. Despite the fact it had only been seven weeks since the last clean up, there was no shortage of rubbish. A total of sixteen sacks were filled with small items such as bottles, cans and fast food wrappers. On this occasion there were only two trolleys which is an improvement, so following some encouragement our local supermarkets do seem to be taking more of an interest.”
