An open day to recruit new staff at Grantham Hospital was a resounding success, say staff.
Two trained nurses were interviewed at Saturday’s recruitment drive and will be taken on by the hospital, subject to checks.
Another 10 people put in applications for healthcare support positions.
The local open day is one of several that the United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust has held recently at its hospitals. Trust staff are also attending the Birmingham Recruitment Fair today (Friday) in a bid to boost staff levels. The trust says it needs to recruit 200 nurses to meet the needs of its patients.
John Boulton, matron for surgical services at Grantham Hospital, said: “It was a very positive event. I was surprised there were so many local people here looking for jobs, but it was a good opportunity for them to look at the opportu nities we have here in Grantham.
“It has been some time since we held an event like this at Grantham but it has been great for the hospital.
“We would like to do another event in the future, maybe next year.”
Acting chief nurse Pauleen Pratt said: “This is an exciting time to join the trust as we are making massive improvements in the quality of our services.
“We are looking to recruit more clinical staff to help us build on the excellent improvements in care we have already made.”
