Hospitals trust launches ‘listening clinics’ at Grantham

Grantham Hospital will be the first in the county to host a ‘listening clinic’ where patients, carers and relatives can voice their opinions on the trust that runs it.

The clinic is a move by the United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust to find out what the public believes is working well and what is not, as part of its continuous improvement programme.

They will be led by the trust’s non-executive directors, who are members of ULHT’s trust board who are not employees of the trust and are not part of the executive management team. They are responsible for constructively challenging and contributing to the development of strategy and scrutinising the performance of management in goals and objectives.

People interested in taking part in a clinic can book a 15-minute slot to share any comments, questions or concerns about their care or treatment.

A member of the Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) team as well as a senior clinician and senior operational member of staff will be on hand at the sessions to provide support, answer queries and to escalate any issues or concerns if required.

The clinics will take place each month at different sites across the trust, starting at Grantham in the Emerald Suite on Tuesday, February 4.

Deputy director of nursing Jennie Negus said: “One of the recommendations from the Keogh Review is that our non-executive directors should hold listening events so they can gain a better insight into patient’s experience of care and services.

“As a trust, we are always looking for ways to maximise the support we provide to patients. These sessions will be a fantastic opportunity for the non-executive directors to meet patients, carers and families face to face; listen, respond and where necessary bring in colleagues to assist and resolve any issues or concerns.

“Any issues raised will be recorded and then fed back to the relevant services and teams and will be used to share experience and learning.

“We would always encourage anyone with a concern or problem who can’t make a session or wants their issue resolving immediately to speak to staff on the ward in the first instance or contact the hospital’s PALS team.”

Future listening clinics will be advertised on the ULHT website
