The trust that runs Grantham Hospital has announced its intention to recruit an additional 80 nurses - although it cannot confirm how many will be posted at Grantham.
United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust (ULHT) said it is investing £3 million following a major trust-wide review into nurse staffing levels. This was in response to the growing complexity of inpatient cases, which is increasing nursing demands on wards.
The investment will be used to increase staffing at night, enabling all ward sisters to focus on their supervisory role, and to provide additional nurses on wards with the greatest clinical demand.
The trust board also plans to invest in further nursing posts in 2014/15.
The news comes despite savings of £20m ULHT must make in 2013/14.
