Popular Grantham jewellers gain new owners
A warm welcome to James and Natalie Rudge, who today officially take over MD Jewellers in Welby Street, Grantham.
Shoppers and staff have bid a fond farewell to Rosina Armitage, who with Melvin Dobbs, created a thriving business over the years.
Rosina began her retirement last weekend, but Melvin is staying on a few weeks to help the new couple settle in.
James has been in the jewellery trade nearly 20 years, starting at 16 in Birmingham’s jewellery quarter. He took an apprenticeship after being inspired by visiting a goldsmith there as a child with his grandfather.
The 35-year-old continued working as a goldsmith in Southampton and Winchester, also becoming a jewellery designer and managing a Winchester jewellers.
He was keen to have his own business and when Melvin and Rosina’s business came on the market, James and Natalie found it and
James said: “Melvin and Rosina have been fantastic in handing the business over. I know we will be keeping their hard work and dreams alive into the future.”
Natalie, who is 32, has worked for global companies in HR but also has experience in working with James on selling wedding rings, something she enjoys.
The couple have no children yet, but customers will soon get to know their “very cute” French Bulldog, who promises to be a regular visitor .
