A YOUNG girl is celebrating her dog show success after being awarded an outstanding young person award at Crufts last weekend.
Jessica Trotter, from Ropsley, is just six years old but was short listed for the Shaun McAlpine Award after coming fourth in a Kennel Club gundog working test at Chatsworth when she was just four.
She said she did not expect to win the award, which acknowledges children aged six to 11 who have excelled through their involvement with dogs.
Jessica worked hard to train her grandmother’s dog Flyn to perform at the show.
She said: “I liked doing the training but started to get annoyed when he kept spinning round. But the test went really well.”
Kennel Club communications director Caroline Kisko said: “Jessica is such a fantastic example of the young people working with dogs to help their community.”
Despite her age Jessica has had a lot of experience looking after dogs.
Her grandmother Joan Hayes introduced her to the Young Kennel Club when she was just three years old.
Joan said: “I’m really proud of her. She’s an absolute natural.
“The dog absolutely adores her. If we are doing dog training he goes to her quite easily.”
