Kelham Cooke becomes new leader of the Conservative Group ahead of South Kesteven District Council choosing top boss




Kelham Cooke became leader of the Grantham and Stamford Conservative Group last night (Monday).

Coun Cooke, a Stamford ward councillor, was formerly deputy leader to Matthew Lee. Coun Lee resigned from the top job last month.

He will now be put forward to the South Kesteven District Council meeting on September 26, where he is likely to be elected leader of the council.

Describing it as a "new era", Coun Cooke said he was "honoured and thrilled".

Former Tory MP Nick Boles, now an Independent, congratulated Coun Cooke.

The council's chief executive Aidan Rave left suddenly in July.
