A former Harrowby United footballer was given a boost when players took to the pitch to raise money for him on Sunday.
The match between a Harrowby United XI and Grantham Town Legends raised £1,204 for Karl Bullimore to help pay for treatment and research into cancer after he was diagnosed last year with a rare form of bladder cancer. Harrowby eventually ran out winners 2-1.
Karl said: “It was a fantastic turnout with everybody who knew me. It was nice to see all the old players from the past. A great get-together seeing some old faces. I enjoyed kicking off the match for the first time in 20 years. A terrific day.”
At the end of the match, all players were presented trophies by Karl, provided by S. Brown Trophies.
Karl’s daughter Karla said the family wanted thank Harrowby Utd for putting on the event and to Grantham town for putting out a spirited team.
Karla added: “We would like to thank MM Dixon Groundworks Ltd for their kind donation of £100, which was given on the day and also to everyone who attended and helped support our dad. It was an emotional day and definitely a fantastic memory for dad. You could see how much it meant to him seeing everyone again and sharing such great memories from the past. So many came to see dad and it was an amazing feeling knowing how much people think of him and how much they care. Wonderful support.”
