I WAS recently told of the events at Barrowby Legion and I had two immediate emotions, dismay that anyone could do such a thing to a legion building, and that when caught the perpetrators must receive very severe punishment.
As I understand it, the Barrowby Legion was established in 1921, the same year that the Royal British Legion was founded as an organisation. For it to survive this many years is a credit to all concerned in the branch.
Now more than ever, we need fully functioning clubs to help meet the circa £90 million commitments that the RBL services each year, particularly as the most important fund-raising event of the year approaches - the Poppy Appeal.
We would like to send our sincere best wishes to Barrowby and hope that they manage to reconstruct the building and continue to serve the community for another 90 years.
