Lincolnshire County Council road gritting statistics revealed

It is that time of year again where the roads are icy, and you often face the task of de-frosting your car before driving to work.

Therefore, it is important for you to know exactly what the local authorities are doing to ensure that the roads are as safe as possible from the risks of ice and snow.

Lincolnshire County Council have annually gritted 3008 kilometres of roads across the county for the past five years.

Over the same period, they have maintained the same amount of gritters and spares, 43 and four respectively.

The highest tonnage of grit used came in the winter of 2017/18, where 37897 tonnes of salt were applied to the roads. In contrast, last year’s winter (2018/19) saw only 13485 tonnes of salt used by the council.

The lowest amount used in the last five years came in 2015/16, where 10010 tonnes of salt was needed for the roads.
