More than 30 people attended a launch night for a plush new dress agency last week.

The White Dress Agency sells luxury pre-owned high end women’s clothing and boasts all the top brands including Jimmy Choos, Ted Baker, Whistles and Vivienne Westwood. It opened its doors in Grantham for the first time last Thursday.

Owner Fiona White, from Bottesford, hopes to appeal to those shoppers who want the designer experience but at a fraction of the cost.

She said: “Many of us spend alot of money on an outfit for a special occasion like a wedding or an anniversary that will then end up hanging up at the back of your wardrobe for months afterwards, as it costs too much to throw away or donate to charity. I display it in my shop for eight weeks. If it sells in that time, we each take 50 per cent of the commission but if it doesn’t, the customer can either choose to take it back or donate it to charity. I am quite strict in that all clothing and shoes need to be new or nearly new.”

Opening her own business has been a long time coming for Fiona, who started off in retail before moving to Singapore and becoming a model.

She added: “I was dealing with different fashions and designers on a regular basis and knew it was something I wanted to continue in the future.”

After moving back, the mum of three started working part-time for East Midlands Taylor Wimpy but always planned to get back into fashion and spotted her opportunity last September.

She said: “It was by chance that I got speaking to the owners of AUK at a time when they were refurbishing their building. I’ve been a customer of theirs for many years, so knew the area well and when they offered me a room, I knew it was meant to be. I think our businesses really complement each other.”

Although Fiona found sourcing her stock simple, she struggled when it came to naming her business adding: “I wanted something simple and that says exactly what it is. I didn’t want people to have to guess. As my surname is White, I thought The White Dress agency was extremely fitting.”

Since opening last week, Fiona has enjoyed getting to know her new customers. She added: “The first week has been fabulous. I’ve sold pieces everyday.”

The White Dress Agency is located upstairs at UK Hair and Beauty on Commercial Road and is open from Thursday to Saturday from 10am to 4.30pm.
