THOUSANDS of indecent images of children were found at the home of a 51-year-old Grantham man.
John Shill, of Redmile Walk, Grantham, admitted possession of more than 3,000 indecent images of children at Grantham Magistrates’ Court on Monday.
Shill, a Navy veteran who served in the first Gulf War, admitted two charges of possessing indecent images of children and four charges of making indecent images of children.
Marie Stace, prosecuting, said Shill told police he was downloading the images but “not doing anything with them”.
She added: “He told police he didn’t know what was compelling him to download them”.
Rob Arthur, defending Shill, said the majority of the downloaded images were “Level One” - the least serious type of indecent images. However, two of the pictures found were classed as Level Five.
Mr Arthur said: “He was looking more at the side of children modelling rather than anything with any sexual activity.”
Mr Arthur pointed out that the charges related to September 2010.
He added: “He has effectively had this hanging over him for the last 18 months. It has been causing him some anxiety because he is obviously a man of good character.”
Shill will be sentenced on June 6 following reports.
