Man in court today charged with posing as a military officer to collect charity cash

A man will appear in court today (Monday) charged with falsely collecting charitable contributions while wearing a military uniform.

Michael Harry Cumiskey, 20, was last night charged with failing to surrender to police custody on December 9 in Grantham, wearing without HM permission a military uniform bearing a regimental badge on November 12 in Grantham, and collecting charitable contributions under a false or fraudulent pretence between November 8-12 in Central London.

It is alleged the contributions were for the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal.

Cumiskey, of Autram Street in Darlington, was remanded in custody to appear at Grantham Magistrates’ Court today.
