A driver attempted to lure a teenager into the back of his van in Bottesford, prompting a warning from the area’s Neighbourhood Watch group.

The incident happened at around 1.30pm on Bank Holiday Monday. The 18-year-old female was approached by a man described as Asian/eastern European, driving a white van.

He attempted to persuade her to get into the vehicle via the rear door. There was no physical coercion and the young woman ran away and subsequently reported the matter to the police.

Principal NHW co-ordinator for Bottesford Parish John Shilton said: “This incident can be interpreted in different ways but to be on the safe side it would be wise for residents to be extra vigilant. With the summer holidays approaching this would be a good time to remind children and teenagers of the dangers presented by uninvited approaches from strangers particularly in the street or other less populated locations.”
