Melton Vale Post-16 Centre rated outstanding by Ofsted inspectors who also deem Belvoir and Melton Academy to be a good school in all areas
Staff and students at Melton Vale Post-16 (MV16) Centre are celebrating after it was rated ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted inspectors.
And there was more good news after the Belvoir and Melton Academy (comprising of MV16 and Belvoir High School) was deemed to be good in all areas.
In their recently published report, inspectors who visited the academy in May said governors and senior staff had successfully addressed issues raised in the last inspection, resulting in improved achievement, teaching and behaviour.
They said students achieved well in a range of subjects and their behaviour and attendance were good.
In respect of MV16 they commented: “The sixth form is outstanding. Teachers have high expectations of students and set challenging work. As a result, achievement is above average and students leave the sixth form exceptionally well prepared for the future.”
Bryan Lovegrove, chairman of the trust which oversees the academy, said everyone involved with the school was delighted that the hard work of staff, students and governors had been recognised with its improved grade.
He said: “Since the academy was judged as requiring improvement following the 2013 inspection, staff have put every effort into ensuring students at the two centres, Belvoir High School and MV16, receive an excellent education.
“We’re delighted Ofsted have endorsed the good work that has gone on, the major improvements made in teaching and also recognised the students’ continuing excellent behaviour and attitude to learning.
“Our work doesn’t stop here though. We know we’re on the way to being an outstanding academy and will continue our journey of improving the education we provide for our students so this will always be a school our communities can be rightly proud of.”
Kirstie Black, MV16’s head of centre, said: “I’m delighted with the judgement of outstanding for MV16. During the two-day process inspectors observed that our students make outstanding progress, receive outstanding teaching and that leadership of the sixth form is outstanding.
“They were overwhelmed by the behaviour of students, the ethos of the centre and the support and guidance that students receive. I couldn’t ask for higher praise than such comments. Students and staff are a credit to our provision and I’m proud to lead such a successful centre.”
Kevin Bennett, acting head of centre at Belvoir High School, said: “We’re delighted with the result from the recent Ofsted inspection. It’s very pleasing to have all the hard work done by staff and pupils recognised in this way.
“We continue to look at ways we can improve and work towards outstanding on their next visit.”
