Regular Memory Lane contributor Michael Matsell would like to know if anyone remembers the 12-pounder field gun outside the barracks on Sandon Road.

There was a smaller gun there, too. Michael remembers that as a child he loved to play on the gun – in the days before health and safety!

At some point the guns were moved to the Sobraon barracks on Burton Road, Lincoln, before moving again in 1980 to the Museum of Lincolnshire Life further down the same road. Michael adds the museum is well worth a visit.

The photo above shows his son, Timothy, on the gun at the Sobraon barracks. It is believed to have been made by the German firm Krupps, and may well have been captured by soldiers of the Lincolnshire Regiment during the First World War.
