Memory Lane: Grantham’s very own Billy Elliot

For Grantham ballet dancer James Barton, 2006 was a very special year.

Having first been inspired when he went to see his sister perform with the Grantham School of Dance, he told his mother that’s what he wanted to do and never looked back.

Ten years ago he accepted a contract with the Birmingham Royal Ballet, aged 18 – he remains with the company today.

He is seen above, right, back in 2005 performing in a production of Hobson’s Choice.
