Another classic café that once had a home on Grantham High Street, and of course had a sign painted by the one and only Terry Shelbourne, is The Chalet Café.

Robert Fowler told us via Facebook: “It was owned by my lovely aunty Janet Freestone.” Janet also got in touch, and said: “That seems years ago. Ha, it is though. Happy times.”

Sally Evans said she used to go in the café a lot with her mum, while Chris Leachman added: “I used to love The Chalet Café.” Maxine Spencer-Dyas added: “Oh wow brings back memories.”

We hope it does for you, too. Terry also wondered if readers remember John Pacey’s workshop next door, where the Nationwide is pictured. John was a good friend, awarded the Military Cross.
