Men convicted after lying to police about speeding offences near Grantham
Two men appeared at Lincoln Crown Court on Wednesday (August 3) charged with perverting the course of justice in relation to a speeding offences near Grantham.
Regis Davidson, 41, of Clark Road in Leeds, hired a Mitsubishi which was caught speeding on the A1 northbound at Barrowby Thorns on March 7, 2015.
The vehicle was caught travelling at 81mph on the road restricted to 70mph. Davidson then falsely claimed that another person was driving the vehicle. He was handed a six-month prison sentence, suspended for 18 months.
Stephen Armstrong, 41, of Park Cliff Road in Greenhithe, also appeared at court on the same day. He falsely claimed that he was not driving a Mercedes that was caught speeding on the A1 southbound on August 30, 2015 – travelling at 82mph on a 70mph road. He received a 12-week custodial sentence. Armstrong has also been banned from driving.
Michael Colbourne, from the Criminal Justice Service Traffic Process Team, said: “If you are driving and get caught speeding it is much better to admit responsibility rather than supply false information and risk a more severe penalty.”
