More roadworks to come in town centre
A third major roadworks scheme starts in Grantham on Monday.
The Avenue Road/Stonebridge Road scheme will resurface a section of carriageway between the B1174 St Peter’s Hill and Sandon Road.
The footpath between Castlegate and Welham Street will be resurfaced and new kerbing installed.
The work, starting on August 13, will take place during the daytime under a road closure, with diversion routes.
During the second week, beginning August 20, Lincolnshire County Council says the road closure will remain in place but no work will take place after 6pm.
Lincolnshire County Council began its second major scheme on Monday, August 6. Highways crews have been replacing the traffic signals at the junction of London Road and Bridge End Road. These improvements are being carried out under three-way temporary signals, with a temporary pedestrian crossing on South Parade.
However, Springfield Road will be closed between the A52/B1184 junction and a point 50m west of the railway bridge. Diversion signs are in place and the project is expected to take four weeks.
The first road repair scheme was completed on Friday, August 3, which saw reconstruction crews busily finishing off the repairs, though waiting for a road sweeper meant the busy London Road/ Wharf Road junction re-opened a few hours late. Since July 29, the junction had been closed to traffic, with crews working 24 hours a day to completely rebuild the road junction
Sue Hodgson, chair of Grantham Business Club, claims having so many major works together may harm town centre businesses. But Lincolnshire County Council highways chiefs say scheduling the work for the school holidays means there is much less traffic.
Meanwhile resurfacing work will also take place this weekend at the following locations:
In addition, the following roads in the west of the county will be surface dressed this weekend, on August 11 and 12:
- Long Drove, Rippingale Fen (Saturday)
- Station Street, Rippingale (Saturday)
- High Street/East Street, Rippingale (Saturday)
- North Drove, Swaton (Sunday)
The following roads will be next surfaced next week:
- Willoughby Road, Ancaster (A153), programmed for Thursday 16 August, stop and go boards
- Honington Road, Barkston (A607), programmed for Friday 17 August stop and go boards
- Station Road, Barkston
Each location will take around one to two days to complete. The exact dates and timings for each location will depend upon weather conditions.
To ensure the safety of the workforce, appropriate forms of traffic management will need to be used at each site. This means delays are likely and people are advised to use alternative routes where possible. Following the works a 20mph speed limit will be in place for seven days.
