MR Arthur Andrew Harwood, of Corby Glen, has died at home. He was 89.

Born in Corby Glen, the son of Wilfred and Alice (nee Strawson) Harwood, he lived in the village all his life.

He attended Corby Glen Primary School, followed by The King’s School, Grantham.

After leaving school he joined the Army in 1941 and served with the 1st Battalion Royal Signals in India and Singapore. He was demobbed in 1946.

After the Second World War he joined the family building firm in Corby Glen. During this time he met Sally, who had arrived in the village as a Land Army girl and they later married.

His wife predeceased him.

Mr Harwood played bowls for Corby Glen Bowls Club and was club secretary until last year.

The funeral service was held at Grantham Crematorium Chapel, conducted by the Rev M. Barton.

Funeral arrangements were by E. Walsingham and Son, Funeral Directors, Church Street, Corby Glen.

Donations were received for Corby Glen Bowls Club.
