MR Alan John Burrows, of Carlton Scroop, Grantham, has died in the William Harvey Hospital, Ashford, Kent. He was 81.

Born in Great Ponton, he was brought up by his uncle, William Townsend, and attended the village school in Great Ponton, followed by the Central School.

In 1955 he married Evelyn and the couple lived in Carlton Scroop for 40 years. He was a devoted family man and father of Linda and Peter and grandfather of William, Emma, Joshua, George and Charlie.

After leaving school he served in the Royal Air Force, before returning to Grantham and going into business with his uncle as a painter and decorator.

He also started taking on contract building work and this became the main part of the business. From the early 1970s he began building up his own property portfolio.

The funeral service was held at St Nicholas Church, Carlton Scroop, conducted by the Rev John Cook. Burial followed.
