MR Adrian Woollas, of Pasture Close, Grantham, has died in Grantham Hospital. He was 77.

Born in Caythorpe, to John and May Woollas, he was the youngest of three sons.

Mr Woollas was educated at The King’s School, Grantham, and on leaving school he joined Arthur Sydall’s, Grantham, as a roofing estimator, and he stayed there for 33 years. He then worked in the roofing trade in Bourne and Market Deeping, until his retirement in 1999.

While doing his National Service with the Royal Lincolnshire Regiment, he was posted to Germany and one of his duties was to patrol Spandau Prison, where Rudolf Hess was imprisoned.

In 1961 he married Sue and they had two children, Stephen and Alison, to whom he was devoted. He and his wife enjoyed 50 years of happy marriage. They had five grandchildren, Leon, Emily, Jack, Mark and Charlotte and one great-grandchild, Gracie-Mae.

Mr Woollas was interested in all sport and especially football. He also played squash and was a founder member of Grantham Squash Club, when it was formed in 1961. He was treasurer for over 30 years and was also secretary and chairman during that time. When he retired he was made an honorary life member in recognition of his services to the club.

He loved his garden and enjoyed walking. He also liked taking holidays abroad until ill health prevented this.

Robert Holland conducted the funeral service at Grantham Crematorium Chapel.
