Mr B. E. Swinnock

Have your say

MR Brian Edward Swinnock, of Valley Road, Grantham, has died in Grantham Hospital. He was 62.

Mr Swinnock was born and grew up in Ramsgate, Kent, with parents Jack and Nora and brother David.

He married Fran in 1979 and they made their home in Grantham. He was father to Andrew, Darren and Clare, grandfather to Ryan, Jack, Rhiannon, Simon, Frances and Megan, and father-in-law to Katrina and Chris.

After leaving school, he trained to be a butcher, working in Ramsgate and briefly in Stratford, East London. Back in Kent, he obtained his PSV licence and drove buses for several years for East Kent Bus Company, moving to Lincolnshire RoadCar when he and Fran relocated to Grantham.

In 1981 he gained his HGV licence, working for various companies until settling at Eddie Stobart, where he stayed for 17 years, travelling to many different countries.

In 2005 he began work at Eastons, collecting milk and delivering it to the dairies, in order that he could be home every night. He worked there until damaging his shoulder in early 2010 and was off work for some time. In July 2010 he returned to working on the buses and joined Centrebus, where he worked until his death.

Mr Swinnock was a passionate supporter of Grantham Town FC, where he was a member of the supporters’ club and attended as many matches as he could. A minute’s silence was held in his memory, on Saturday, August 6 at the Meres stadium, before the match between Grantham Town FC and Stamford.

He and Fran enjoyed many holidays in the UK, Europe and the USA, the most recent being to Majorca in June.

He loved tuning into Gravity FM and day trips out in his beloved kit car, known amongst friends as the “Yellow Peril”.
