MR Charles Henry Blanchard, of Chaucer Close, Grantham, has died in Newton House Nursing Home, Barrowby Road, Grantham. He was 78.
He was born in Hackthorn, Lincolnshire. His mother died in childbirth and he was brought up by Mr and Mrs W. Weselby, of Cowes Road, Grantham.
He attended Spitalgate Boys’ School and then the Central School.
In 1951 he joined the Royal Navy and served at RNH Chatham (Plymouth) and RNH Trincomalee. He also served on HMS Merlin, HMS Ceres, HMS Glory, HMS Crossbow, HMS Pembroke, HMS Drake, HMS Phoenicia and HMS Victory. In 1974 he retired from the Navy and became a clinical teacher in Plymouth and on the Isle of Man.
Mr Blanchard enjoyed fishing, gardening and reading. During his time in the Navy he played hockey and tennis.
The Rev June Rowlands conducted the funeral service at Grantham Crematorium Chapel.

Funeral arrangements were by Robert Holland, St Catherine’s Road, Grantham.
Donations were received for Newton House Nursing Home, Grantham.
