MR Derek John William Handley, of Long Bennington, has died in Grantham Hospital. He was 84.
Mr Handley was born in Bottesford, but lived in Long Bennington all his life, apart from when doing his National Service in the Army, and for a time living in Devon.
His first job was for a bakers as a delivery boy.
After leaving the Army, he helped out on various farms, operating a digger, while working for the Rev Staunton.
In August 1957 he married Violet in Long Bennington. They had two children, Susan and Stephen. Mr Handley enjoyed spending time with his family, which later included grandchildren, Laura, Rebecca and Chloe.
He had many interests, including grass track racing, wrestling, boxing and cycling, but his main interest was his garden, from which he took a great deal of pride and enjoyment.
He and Violet enjoyed day trips, bus trips and attending air shows.
The funeral service was held at St Swithun’s Church, Long Bennington, conducted by the Rev James Findlay. Cremation followed in Grantham.

Ball, Joyce Bainbridge, Jean Spicer, Beatrice Tuckwood, Primrose Matthews, Penny Ballard, Andrew Thornton, Jean Ware and Kate Faulkner.
Funeral arrangements were by William Roberts and Sons, Devon Lane, Bottesford.
