MR James Ivan Proctor, of Seventh Avenue, Grantham, has died in St Edmunds Nursing Home, Grantham. He was 82.
Mr Proctor was born in Grantham, the son of Frank and Alice Proctor, of Houghton Road. He had two brothers, Stanley and Ralph and a sister, Jean. He was the last surviving child. Stanley died in 1998, Ralph in 2005 and Jean predeceased him eight weeks earlier. They could trace their family history in Grantham to the 1880s, when their grandfather, Aaron Proctor moved from Belchford, near Horncastle, to work at Rustons, and he married a young woman from Ropsley, May Cox. Previously the Protors had stayed in the Horncastle area and can be traced back to the first decade of the 1700s in Fulletby.
In 1956 he married Shirley Hulley and they had two children, Kate and Mark, and spent their family life living in Cliffe Road. Unfortunately this marriage ended.
In 1994 he married Yvonne (formerly Wigglesworth, nee Thornton) and they continued to be a devoted couple, living in Seventh Avenue.
The family continued to grow, with three granddaughters joining the family, Jessica, Georgina and Helena, plus Yvonne’s family, giving him an extended family.
At the age of 14 he left the Boys’ Central School and went to work at Aveling Barford as a pattern maker, where he stayed for 36 years, until being made redundant. Unfortunately illness took its toll and his quality of life was greatly affected.
Mr Proctor was a keen singer and was a long-serving member of St Wulfram’s Choir and together with his brothers, were regular performers with the Grantham Operatic Society, where he consistently played the leading tenor roles. In the 1970s he sang with The Rhythm Makers, the resident band at BMARC Social Club.
In later life he enjoyed his extended family, listening to music, especially Katherine Jenkins, and watching all sports on television.
The Rev June Rowland conducted the funeral service at Grantham Crematorium Chapel.
