MR John William Louth (Bill), late of Corby Glen, has died in The Cedars Nursing Home, Bourne. He was 86.

He was the eldest son of William and Annie Louth and one of eight children.

After wartime service in the Army, he worked at Aveling Barford in Grantham, and then for many years at Allis Chalmers - which became Fiat Allis - in Essendine. When the factory closed he moved to Christian Salvesen in Easton. In his later working life he enjoyed gardening jobs for people in the area, as well as bush beating for local shoots.

He married Joyce Turner of Caythorpe Heath in 1958, when they moved to Coronation Road in Corby Glen, where he spent 53 happy years. Their only son, Charles was born in 1960. Joyce predeceased him in 2002.

Mr Louth was heavily involved in all aspects of village life. He particularly enjoyed bowling, winning many trophies over the years.

He was also extremely dedicated to St John’s Church in the village and carried out many official and unofficial duties there over the years, being recently presented with a certificate to mark his contribution there.

In late 2011 he moved to Stamford, to be closer to his family due to failing health.

Mr Louth was a gentle, placid and extremely sociable man who loved long walks and meeting people.
