MR Oliver Hardy, of Premier Court, Grantham, has died in Grantham Hospital. He was 91.

Born in Tindal Road, Grantham, he was the youngest son of Caroline and Fred Hardy.

He attended the National School and the Boys’ Central School, Grantham.

In January 1942 he married Joan Meadows.

On leaving school he went to work at Arthur Chambers as a draper.

He joined the Territorial Army and was called-up at the outbreak of the Second World War and served in the 6th Batallion of The Royal Lincolnshire Regiment. He served in Dunkirk, North Africa and the Italian Campaign. After the war he returned to employment at Arthur Chambers.

In 1954 he joined BMARC and worked his way up to shipping manager. He retired from the company in 1981 when his wife retired and he enjoyed 30 years of retirement.

Mr Hardy enjoyed working in his shed doing joinery. He also liked travelling to other countries on holiday and in his latter years he enjoyed dining out with his many friends.

Canon Christopher Andrews conducted the funeral service at St Wulfram’s Church, Grantham. Cremation followed at Grantham Crematorium Chapel.
