MR Stanley Priestley, of Newton Court, Colsterworth, has died in Grantham Hospital. He was 84.

He was born in Sherwood, Nottingham.

At the age of 14 he left school and became a butcher’s boy.

He completed his National Service in the Royal Navy and then went to work in the coal mines, where he stayed until 1958, when he opened his own butchers shop in Nottingham. In 1974 he went into the bakery business with a large factory and many shops.

Mr Priestley was a member of Corby Glen Bowling Club and he was club treasurer for a long time.

The Rev Margaret Barton conducted the funeral service at St John’s Church, Corby Glen. Cremation followed in Grantham.

Family mourners included: Mrs D. Priestley, Mr and Mrs S. Nuttall, Simon and Paul Nuttall, Mrs S. Nuttall, Mr and Mrs R. Nuttall, Mr and Mrs M. Nuttall, Mr and Mrs D. Martin.

Other mourners included: Josephine Hill, Edith Swanson, Phil and Sue Skewis, Christine Grantham, Mr E. Davey, Richard Allitt, Mr and Mrs J. Simpson, Brian and Sandra Johnson, Jim Exton, Alan Greetham, Brian Meads, Roger Jackson, Margaret Lyon, Jill Walsingham.

Funeral arrangements were by E. Walsingham and Son Funeral Directors, Church Street, Corby Glen.

Donations for Corby Glen Bowls Club amount to £85 to date.
