MR William Dennis Peasgood, of South Witham, has died in Peterborough City Hospital. He was 83.
Mr Peasgood was the youngest of nine children. He was married to Gwen for 51 years and was dad to Helen, Andrew and Michael, grandad to Becky, Mel, Sophie, Ella, William and Abigale and great-grandad to Tylor.
He lived in South Witham all his life, working at Craven Bakery, then in the shop. He bought the shop inn 1971 and retired in 1992, living across the road until his death.
Mr Peasgood played cricket, football, badminton and tennis in his younger days.
He was a member of the parish council and he took on the role of Father Christmas for the village hall, playschool and village school. He loved doing jigsaw puzzles.
Mr Peasgood carried out grass cutting for the church and local pensioners. He also made bird tables, trellises and many other things.
He will be sadly missed in the village as he always had a good word for everyone.
The Rev Tom Broadbent conducted the funeral service at St John the Baptist Church, South Witham. Burial followed in South Witham cemetery.
