MRS Evelyn Mary Stedman, of Stainby Road, Colsterworth, has died in Grantham Hospital. She was 94.

Born in Caistor, Lincolnshire, she moved to Colsterworth at the age of 4.

In 1940 she married George William Stedman at Colsterworth Church, after being together since school days.

Mrs Stedman became a widow 18 years ago and stayed in the marital home where she had lived for 72 years.

After leaving school at the age of 14, she went into service at Colsterworth Rectory for the Rev and Mrs Mahon. After four years she went to work for Thompson’s Solicitors as a maid, where she remained until her marriage. She then worked for United Steel for 23 years, Stoke Rochford Hall for two years and finally Dr and Mrs Stafford for 10 years.

Mrs Stedman was a member of St John’s Church, Colsterworth, and the Women’s Institute and enjoyed fund-raising for them both. She also enjoyed crossword puzzles.

The funeral service was held at St John the Baptist Church, Colsterworth, conducted by the Rev Eric Lomax and the Rev John Cook. Burial followed in Colsterworth cemetery.

Funeral arrangement were by Robert Holland, St Catherine’s Road, Grantham.
