MRS Gladys Evelyn Meads, of Skillington, has died in St Edmunds Nursing Home, Worcester Road, Grantham. She was 91.
Born in Middle Street, Skillington, she was the daughter of Frank and Violet Barker and the eldest of five children. She is predeceased by her brothers, Charles and Gerald and sister, Brenda, and is survived by her brother John.
In December 1939 she married Harold Meads in Skillington Church. He predeceased her in July 1983.
She went into domestic service for Mr Nicholson, town clerk and solicitor in Market Harborough. She then became cook and housekeeper for Group Capt Fowler at the Abbey in Skillington.
During the Second World War she worked at the ironstone quarries on excavators.
Her interests were gardening, sewing and cooking.
The Rev Eric Lomax conducted the funeral service at St James Church, Skillington. An address was given by Denhys Lambley, a friend of the family. Burial followed in Skillington.

Funeral arrangements were by Robert Holland, St Catherine’s Road, Grantham.
