MRS Josephine Mary King (Jo) of Lime Tree Close, Fulbeck, has died in Grantham Hospital. She was 68.

Jo, as she was affectionately known to everyone who knew her, had been in failing health for some time.

Born in Grantham Hospital in 1942, she was the third child of five and grew up in Brandon. She was educated at Hough on the Hill School and Leadenham Secondary School. She later worked on various farms in the area on the land.

On Christmas Eve, 1966, she married Cyril and they moved into a cottage in High Street, Fulbeck. They had two children, Robert and Sandra. Sadly Cyril died in 1978, leaving her to bring up their two children. She worked hard to make a living during those years, cycling, sometimes even walking to Leadenham, Welbourn and the surrounding area doing cleaning jobs.

She worked on a chicken farm on South Heath Lane, then at Padleys at Anwick. She also used to collect the football pools around the village, enjoying cups of tea and cake and a natter as she went on her round.

The family moved to Ash Close in the village, then some time later, to South Heath Lane. When her health became poor she moved into a bungalow in Lime Tree Close around 18 months ago.

Mrs King was a member of Fulbeck Over Sixties Club. She enjoyed playing bingo, watching television, visiting garden centres and her pet dog Sammy and her cat.

A very honest person, she was a good friend to many and a very unique lady who will be greatly missed.

The Rev June Freshney conducted the funeral service at St Nicholas Church, Fulbeck. She was buried alongside her husband in Fulbeck churchyard.
