MRS Janet Olive Carter, has died in Glenfield Hospital, Leicester. She was 74.

Born in Eaton, she was the daughter of Tom and Floss Hodgson and sister to Maureen.

She attended Eaton Primary School, followed by the Sarson Secondary Modern School for Girls in Melton Mowbray and for most of her life she lived in the village.

In the early 1950s she met Roger and they were married in Eaton Church in 1958. They had a son, Kevin, and daughters, Sally and Helen, followed later by grandchildren, Daniel, Luke, Amy, Emma and William.

After leaving school, she worked as a clerk at the Ironstone Works in Eaton. In the 1960s and ‘70s she helped her parents run the Castle Inn at Eaton and also The Red Lion in Stathern. During this time she enjoyed organising and catering for various events and raising money for various charities.

Mrs Carter then had several jobs which included being a school dinner lady at Eaton Primary School; a dairy worker at Long Clawson Dairy and a Home Help in the Vale of Belvoir. She also worked for Mr and Mrs P. Willet and finally Mr and Mrs B. Herbert.

Her interests included knitting, sewing and flower arranging. She played skittles for the local team which she captained for many years and she was a founder member of the Melton and District Ladies Skittle League.

The funeral service was held at St Deny’s Church, Eaton, conducted by the Rev Beverley Start and the Rev Sue Bradley. Burial followed in the village cemetery.
