Have your say

MRS Myrtle Dove (Mick), of School Lane, Old Somerby, has died in Harrowby Lodge Nursing Home. She was 83.

Born in Grantham, she was the second youngest of four children born to Myrtle and William Frisby.

She met her future husband Maurice at a dance in Colsterworth, and after a courtship they were married on March 29, 1952. They initially lived in rooms in Grantham, before purchasing their family home in Old Somerby, where they remained.

In 1963 their son Nicholas was born in Grantham hospital.

Mrs Dove was mother-in-law to Pauline and grandmother to twins, Christian and Oliver.

She attended school in Grantham, first at Huntingtower Junior School and then on to the Girls’ Central School.

After leaving school she went to work at Watkins Butchers. She then went on to work in the offices of Lincolnshire RoadCar. After having her son she gave up work to become a full-time mum until he was in his early teens.

In 1974 her husband purchased his own business, Smith’s Tools, in Watergate, and she spent many hours working alongside him. Mrs Dove then took part-time work at Brooks and Wardman Opticians, in Swinegate, and continued to work for them when they became Specsavers until taking retirement in the early 1990s to spend time with her husband who was retired.

Mrs Dove was a member of Inner Wheel and held the position of treasurer for many years. She also was an active member of the Old Girls’ Central Society, and enjoyed meeting up with old school friends. She loved socialising and dancing, especialy at Marco’s Social Club.

In later years, her passion was her two grandchildren who she adored and was extremely proud of.

She was a caring and unmatched grandmother, mother and wife who will be sadly missed.
